Both the Black Widow and Hawkeye got minimal screen time in stand-alone Marvel films leading up to their increased screen time in The Avengers—Black Widow was in Iron Man 2 and Hawkeye in Thor. But after The Avengers their screen time is uncertain.

It's now confirmed the Black Widow will not be in Iron Man 3, per a Total Film interview with actress Scarlett Johansson.

"No," the Black Widow actress said when asked if she will be in Iron Man 3. "I know they have Iron Man 3, and then they're going to roll out Thor 2 and Cap 2. I don’t know how far the process is for either of those. But we talk to Kevin [Feige] about that stuff."

Johansson was asked if she will be in any future Marvel stand-alone films.

"I’m not sure. But there is always the possibility," she said. "But even if there was a possibility, we would never tell you!"

Hawkeye actor, Jeremy Renner, seems equally in the dark when it comes to reprising his role in upcoming Marvel films.

"Not that I’m aware of," Renner said when asked if he will be in future Marvel movies.

What is interesting to note is how both Johansson and Renner are saying they won't be in any Marvel films soon, but yet, they both said this. Perhaps this is a sign that the Black Widow and Hawkeye will be in a Marvel film sooner than later since two negatives equals a positive.

Marvel does have an unannounced film releasing in summer 2014 and maybe this movie will be a S.H.I.E.L.D. film starring both the Black Widow and Hawkeye along with Nick Fury and Maria Hill.

Only time will tell.
