If you haven't seen the photos from the Iron Man 3 set where you can easily see an A.I.M. sign in front of a building, don't fret, because we have the picture below. But this information has caused a bit of a stir online and too many people are speculating since the terrorist group A.I.M. is in the next Iron Man installment this also means MODOK will be a surprise villain—being he is the leader of A.I.M. in the comics.
Well this theory is confirmed to be false after we spoke with our Hollywood source who has told us MODOK will not be in Iron Man 3 and also said, "whoever started that rumor was really reaching for some attention or something."
We agree the MODOK rumor was way over the top even for Marvel Studios to consider having him in their cinema universe. Though we speculate A.I.M. is behind the release of the nano-virus which has Ben Kingsley's Mandarin villain lurking behind the scenes in the new film too.
Of course theories and rumors can run wild online but everyone needs to remember Marvel Studios can, will and has taken liberties of changing what happened in the comic universe and adapted it to fit into their movie universe. There may be parallels at some times, with both comics and movies, but nothing should be considered to actually happen on the big screen just because it happened that way in the comics. (Maybe we're just Captain Obvious in saying this, but some theories are just plain silly, in our opinion, right now.)
Anyway, we couldn't be happier to hear that MODOK will not be in Iron Man 3 since he is one of those villains who has never really stood out and having Mandarin (Kingsley), Eric Savin (James Badge Dale) and Aldrich Killian (Guy Pierce) are plenty of baddies for Tony Stark to face already.
However, there could be a quick "tip of the cap" to MODOK in a subtle way as an Easter egg in this movie, similar to how Armin Zola was done in Captain America: The First Avenger.
