It seems a bit too coincidental that Marvel Studios announces their second 2014 release has been pushed back three months from May 16 to August 1 the day The Amazing Spider-Man hits theaters. However, Marvel did just this on Tuesday.
When asked about this, our Hollywood source, says there is some truth about how Marvel does not want to go head-to-head against one of their own superheroes, since The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had already been scheduled for release on May 2, 2014—just two weeks prior to when Marvel's second 2014 release was scheduled.
This is an important move by Marvel since they open the 2014 summer movie season earlier than most summer movies come out when they release Captain America 2 in the beginning of April. Now with their second movie pushed back, Marvel can then own the month of August to close out the summer season too.
The rumor mill keeps saying the Guardians of the Galaxy will be that second 2014 film, but other rumors have also said it could be an Ant-Man or Black Panther movie as well. Having a Comic Con panel next week, Marvel Studios is sure to reveal what this other 2014 film really is, plus more.
