Iron Man 3 rumors are really starting to heat up with the 2012 San Diego Comic Con just over a week away. Marvel Studios has confirmed they will indeed have a panel to discuss Iron Man 3 and their ever-expanding cinematic universe.
Several days ago, a rumor shot out of the mill regarding an end credits scene for Iron Man 3 and before we get into what we think about this rumored scene, here is your SPOILER ALERT warning to stop reading now.
A few days ago there was a rumor writer/director Edgar Wright—who has been attached to an Ant-Man film for some time now—was going to shoot the footage for the end credits of Iron Man 3 as an introduction to Marvel Studios' next solo movie ... Ant-Man.
We here at SuperHero Authority had to look at the possibility of this rumor being a reality. If the end scene of Iron Man 3 is indeed be the introduction to an Ant-Man movie, it may not show any actor portraying Dr. Henry Pym/Ant-Man. It could be as simple as Tony Stark learning of Dr. Pym's new discovery of a molecular technology which shrinks a person's size down to the size of an ant.
Then we had to look at, and critically think about, the other side of this rumor. Iron Man 3 should in theory set up the next Marvel Studios film, as each movie has done in the past four years. That would be Thor 2, in November of next year. But then there's that little tid-bit at the mid-credits in The Avengers that shows Thanos and doesn't seem to fit the concept of setting up the next movie, which is Iron Man 3.
Let's be honest in saying everything is a rumor until confirmed and Marvel Studios has perfected the art of the mid- or end-credits extra scene to move their cinematic universe forward and tease what's next to come. Whatever the plan is, there is really no rush to shoot any post-credits scene though.
The Avengers' post-credits shawarma scene was said to be shot only a day or two after it the film originally premiered in Hollywood and then it was added before the official release several weeks later. So anything is possible with these post-credits scenes and it might not get shot until closer to next May when Iron Man 3 is scheduled to release and more information and development is completed to make Ant-Man a reality in itself.
